Volunteer to be a CASA
We Need You!
It matters to children that someone stands up for them in court to prevent further harm. Abused and neglected children in Montana need caring and committed adults who are trained to represent their best interests in court
Local programs recruit and screen volunteers. You can check the online calendar and contact the program in your area to find out about local training dates.
You may also contact the state CASA office to talk to someone about becoming a CASA volunteer.
What Does it Take to be a CASA?
- A commitment to children
- Objectivity
- Good communication skills
- Ability to devote time
No special experience or education is required. You must be willing to commit to staying with the case until it is resolved. Once accepted, volunteers are trained in courtroom procedures, social services, the child welfare system and the needs of children who have been abused and neglected.
How Can I Become a CASA?
- Contact your local CASA program or state office
- Complete a written application
- Provide three personal and/or professional references.
- Complete a criminal record screening process
- Participate in a personal interview
- Complete the 30 hours of required training, court observation and mock trial

CASA volunteers are ordinary people committed to doing what is best for a child. CASA’s come from all walks of life, with diverse professional, educational, and ethnic backgrounds. Over 50 percent of our volunteers have full time jobs. The common denominator among all CASA volunteers is their sincere concern for the well-being of children.
