Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) Conference

April 21-23 at the Red Lion Colonial Inn in Helena

Registration forms, as well as the Conference Agenda, may be found by following the link to the Department of Health and Human Services CAN Conference site.

CASA Volunteers attending the CAN Conference have the option of applying for reimbursement from CASA of Montana. Up to $250 may be reimbursed for travel and hotel expenses. Click the link to download a 2009 Volunteer Scholarship Form. Forms should be returned to Pam at pam-casa@qwestoffice.net no later than April 3, 2009.

The goal of the conference is to bring together and educate CASA Staff, Volunteers, and Board Members, as well as Judges, Attorneys, and interested Social Services Workers.Featured speaker of the Conference will be Dr. Bruce Perry, MD, PhD. Perry is a world renowned child psychiatrist, who will speak about how early life stress and violence effect brain development. Also speaking will be Jim Hmurovich, President and CEO of Prevent Child Abuse America, Dr. Earl Sutherland of the Crow Agency Care Center, Dr. Thana Singarajah, Idaho State University professor, Dr. Liz Kohlstaedt, Linda Reinhart, and Dr. Joseph Crumbley, among others. Justice Jim Rice, Associate Justice of the Montana Supreme Court, will be hosting an ethics presentation.These speakers and presenters will cover a broad range of topics including, In-Home Services, Assessing Families for Kinship Care, Secondary Trauma Prevention, research findings about Foster Care and Kinship Care on the Welfare of Children, and more.

CASA CAN Awards

Nominations are due April 2 by 5:00pm

Every year, CASA of Montana awards an exceptional Volunteer, Program Director, and Judge for their dedication and service throughout the previous 12 months. This year, awards will be presented by Justice Judge Rice at the start of the Prevent Child Abuse and Neglect (CAN) Conference on April 21st. Winners will be contacted by April 14th to be notified of their award. Please think of someone exceptional from your local CASA program to nominate! For a list of award criteria, follow the link.
